In addition to National Golf Club there are over 40 golf courses in the Pinehurst area. Pinehurst Resort was created in 1895 and has hosted several world golf championships. Golfers from all over the world come to play at the resort and on newer courses such as The Pit, Foxfire, Pine Needles and Legacy.

 

The Pinehurst community is abundant in luxury amenities, recreation and entertainment. Pinehurst is noted for magnificant homes built in the area. Many of these homes are in their own gated communities. National Golf Club is one of these.

Pinehurst hosted its first major golf tournament with the 1936 PGA Championship. The Ryder Cup was played at Pinehurst in 1951, the Tour Championship in 1991 and 1992. The resort also hosted the North and South Open from 1902 to 1951 and is currently the home of the North and South Amateur Championships. More recently Pinehust hosted the 1999 and the 2005 US Open golf championship and will host the 2008 US Amateur.
